Enabling SME Productivity
The UK Productivity Puzzle
The UK’s productivity improvement has stalled since the economic downturn in 2008. As small & medium enterprises (SMEs) account for around half the UK’s national income and 60% of private sector employment, it is clear that solving the productivity puzzle for SMEs will be key to growing the UK’s economy.
Productivity through People (PtP) is a UK wide programme for SME leaders, which provides insight to inform the development of people practices that will enable the performance of their business. PtP is a 10-month programme, led by universities with a track-record of promoting SME learning networks in their region.
Our Role
- In collaboration with Lancaster University we adapted our organisational assessment tool to support Productivity through People, and aligned it with the latest academic research and case studies of best business practice.
- We tailored the assessment specifically for small and medium enterprises, focusing it on issues that most influence their productivity. The same process is used by all the Universities delivering the programme.
- We facilitate a benchmarking review day for all delegates at the start of every programme. This has proved to be a valuable reference point for delegates. It helps prioritise their requirements, and informs learning and actions they take throughout the programme. We provide feedback on progress at the completion of each programme.
- By the end of 2019, 150 SMEs across the UK will have participated in the programme.
